The Villas and Gardens of the Riviera

The Flower Riviera allows visitors to take a virtual trip back in time among the gardens depicted by Claude Monet, the villas designed by the architect of the Paris Opera House and the dreamlike constructions of Villa Grock.

Unique places, original houses and gardens reflecting the philosophy and taste of the personalities that wanted and created them. The historical villas enrich the landscape of the Flower Riviera and are proof of an aristocratic predilection perfectly matching the light and landscape of this area. Along the coast, from the French border to Cervo, there is a succession of genuine architectural and botanical works of art, gardens with plants from all over the world and spectacular showrooms.

Mainly built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they belonged to internationally acclaimed figures that chose the extreme western part of Liguria as their adopted country: Alfred Nobel, the clown Adrian Wettach a.k.a. Grock, the Hanbury family and Queen Margherita of Savoy. The Province of Imperia has realized a wide-range project for the requalification of architectonical heritage to protect and conserve these important sites.

The Province has already bought three of the most important villas: Villa Nobel, Villa Grock and Villa Regina Margherita together with the City of Bordighera.
